Wormy Wednesday On A Thursday

I have a good reason why Wormy Wednesday is a day late.......It's Gunnar's fault. He was in charge of the post and he says he couldn't fit blogging into his busy schedule of sleeping all day and being on time to all 3 meals.

Gunnar Doing Some Blogging

Okay, not really. I was working on something really exciting and lost track of time. That announcement will hopefully be coming soon. There might be another contest in the near future because of it.

This week it was time to change the bedding. I wore gloves for this because of all of the castings. I would have done pretty good if I sold worm casings. When it's time to change the bedding, it is also time to look for signs of baby worms. It takes at least 2 months for worms to start breeding after the initial set so it's not time for there to me any in my worm farm.

I found all 20 worms and only 2 were dead. There was one very chubby worm which was a good sign.

These are some happy worms in some new bedding.

Maybe next time I change the bedding we can talk about baby worms.

Contest Results

The results are finally in!! First I would like to thank everybody who entered. All of the entries were really good........really, really good. I couldn't decide on just one winner, so I have 2 winners! I was surprised and excited that most entries were from men! Both winners were both from men and when the winners replied to my emails to give me their addresses, they both said the prizes were going to the girls in the photos! Great job guys! The first winner is:

Pat Thurman

Here is a pic of my Daughter who has turned into quite the fly fisherwoman. On this day she caught 2 fish bigger than any one else. The days that she fishes with me are better than any other regardless of what or how many fish are caught. I think there is no better joy than standing in a river with your son or daughter.

That last line of Pat's short story gets me every time!! I would add nieces and nephews to that line. Thank you and congratulations Pat!

The next winner is:

Howard Levett

I’ve had the pleasure of helping many people learn to fly fish over the years. None have brought me as much joy as teaching my favorite fishing partner, my wife Pam.
To be fair, Pam was raised in the wilds of mid Ohio and became an outdoor lover without my help. Fishing was not new to her. Neither was a true love of all things outdoors from bird watching, hiking and forestry.  (She requested a chainsaw for her birthday last year!) Moving to Colorado in her twenties just whet her appetite for more things outdoors, including fly fishing.
I can’t say that she does “things” exactly the way I do, but I’m proud that she’s a better caster, is the first in and last out on the water and embodies the true spirit of the outdoors. Now if I can just get her interested in the blog and start tying her own flies…

Pam on the left helping her niece Emily with her first trout.

Thanks & congratulations Howard! I love that his wife wanted a chainsaw for Christmas! I had to include the picture of Pam and her niece because I have a soft spot for stories about kids. Be sure to check out Howard's blog, too: http://www.cofisher.blogspot.com/

Thank you again for all of the entries! They were all great and it was a very hard choice to make.

A Fun Camping & ATV Trip - Part 4

Here is the final post of pictures from our trip last weekend! Except for the part that made my allergies go nuts, it was a great trip and I can't wait to do this one again!

One of my favorite Girls In The Outdoors.

Another of my favorite Girls In The Outdoors.

Kris and Kaos discussing which trail to take.

Sasha wants to take the trail that makes her ears flap in the wind.

This is one of the reasons I loved this trip so much! Look at those views!

He backed into the mud hole and I was sure he was stuck. Poor Kaos was in the back and she wasn't happy about the flying mud.

Another great view.

Have you ever been on a trail and saw the trail marker but there were no numbers on it? We were trying to find the trail on the map and according to the map and the blank markers, our trail didn't exist!

Look really close, there is a deer across the creek from our campsite right before we started packing up camp.

This picture was taken about a mile from the turnoff to our house!

Me and my favorite riding & camping partner!

A Fun Camping & ATV Trip - Part 3

Here is part 3 of our fun weekend!

I love photos of Aspen tree trunks.

A view from the trail.

Some more wild flowers

Looking down at our campsite from the road.

The creek at our campsite.

I love camping near a creek.

Aren't we cute?

My husband always rebuilds the firepits at campsites into a horseshoe pit. Horseshoe pits work great.

Another view from our campsite.

Time for some fetch!

Time for some basektball/soccer.

A Fun Camping & ATV Trip - Part 2

Here is the Part 2 of our fun camping and offroading trip.

I love taking pictures of water. Creeks are probably my favorite.

I also love taking pictures of old buildings and bridges.

Looking down on the road to our campsite.

Another Mountain View

A Mountain Lake

A Great Colorado View

There is a fence to the left, then a gate and then.....nothing. I guess they think that big tree and the little tree are going to keep you from going around the gate. Kind of makes me wonder what's back there.

I thought this was funny. A trail that came to an abrupt end.

That is a camera shy eagle. Once the camera was pointed at him, he didn't cooperate.

Fall is coming!

A Fun Camping & ATV Trip - Part 1

Last weekend we went on a really fun trip for my husband's birthday. It had been a long time since we had done an offroading camping trip and the first one where I was a driver. We used to take the Wagoneer (fullsize, holds 6-7 people & all of their stuff plus a few other people's stuff). I could take lots of pictures and enjoy the views in the Jeep because my husband drove and I was a passenger. We have been on several trails around our area so I wasn't too nervous about driving on the trails, I was nervous about not being able to take my pictures! If I came home with only 50 pictures I'd be crushed! Thankfully, my husband is really good at recognizing when I will probably want to stop to take a picture so I did ok. I didn't get as many as I used to get, but this trip was so much fun, I know we'll go back to that area and I can get the pictures I missed. I'm only going to share a "few" pictures and it's going to take at least 3 parts to share those "few." Hope you enjoy!

View near camp.

A Beaver Pond

Another Beaver Pond

Some Wild Flowers

My little Sasha isn't showing off her new riding harness in this photo, she is yipping and yapping at her shadow! She's never done that before! It was REALLY annoying.

A Pretty Meadow

A Pretty Creek

A Pretty View

We saw this mountain from several different views that weekend.

Look close and you can see a doe. The buck picture from the other side of the trail didn't turn out very well.

My girls and the ATVs.
